FAQs

How does it work

We will despatch your COVID-19 testing kit using next day delivery service unless you are ordering for Test to Release which will be despatched on day 4 of self-isolation or day 2 & 8 testing which will be despatched on day of order of isolation. To return your item attach the enclosed prepaid label to the transport box. Post your item at your nearest Royal Mail Priority Postbox, whilst adhering to social distancing rules and local Health Department guidelines. To find your nearest Priority Postbox Click here.

Once the swabs are received by our laboratory staff, where receipt of the sample is recorded on to our laboratory information management system (LIMS), the samples are handled in an appropriate safety cabinet, where they are unpacked, and the sample treated to inactivate any live virus.
The sample is then processed using an automated extraction platform to isolate any RNA from the SARS-Cov-2 virus and a reverse-transcription, real-time PCR assay is then used to detect the presence of the viral RNA genome. Results are then released to our secure online portal to be downloaded. Postitive samples sent for day 2 test for international travel arrivals will be subject to whole genome sequencing.
Test to release allows international arrivals to opt in to ‘Test to Release’ and pay to take a Covid-19 RT PCR test after 5 days of self-isolation, if the result is negative you can stop self-isolating. Source BioScience is a government approved provider of ‘Test to Release’ COVID-19 RT PCR Tests and meets the set minimum standards.
A COVID-19 RT PCR test looks for the presence of the virus currently in the body, it detects this from the RNA taken from the sample provided.
If you are travelling into England from outside the UK, you are required to quarantine for 10 days upon arrival.

International arrivals in quarantine are required to take a test on or before day 2 of their quarantine period, for variant surveillance, and a further test on day 8 (of their quarantine period). Source BioScience is a government approved provider of ‘Test for International Release’ COVID-19 RT PCR tests and meets the set minimum standards. For certain countries, a test to release test can be taken to shorten the quarantine period & must be ordered separately.

Positive (SARS-CoV-2 Detected): in this case, the presence of SARS-CoV-2 RNA has been detected in the sample.
Negative (SARS-CoV-2 Not Detected): in this case, the presence of SARS-Cov-2 RNA has not been detected in the sample.
Retest/Inconclusive (A valid result could not be generated from the sample provided): in this case, we have been unable to obtain a valid test result and a new swab sample should be taken and submitted for an additional test. A 'retest/inconclusive' result could indicate a failure in the sampling process, or the presence of inhibitors that prevent successful detection of viral RNA. A new order for a test should be placed to allow for a retest, please ensure you follow the sample instructions carefully to reduce this risk.
